Disney Roundup for week of Jan. 13

A new bakery, a magic band, Oscar nominations, financial wealth, soccer tournaments  and a touching moment during the Disney World Marathon are just some of what's been going on in the Disney Universe this past week.

Here's a closer look at what's been going on.

Revamped bakery opens in the France Pavilion
The new Boulangerie Patisserie les Halles at the France Pavilion is open. The bakery is “at least 10 times” larger than the former sweet shop, manager Eric Weistroffer tells the Disney Parks Blog.

Disney this week announced that a new reservation system called My Magic+ complete with an RFID bracelet will be introduced to Disney World.

Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts,writes on the Disney Parks Blog, "Linking the entire MyMagic+ experience together is an innovative piece of technology we developed called the MagicBand.

Oscar watch
The Walt Disney Studios earned 17 Academy Award nominations for this year, including 12 for "Lincoln," and nominations for "Brave," "Frankenweenie," Wreck-It-Ralph," "Paperman" and "The Avengers."

"Lincoln:" Best Picture; Daniel Day-Lewis for Best Actor, Sally Fields for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, Tommy Lee Jones for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Steven Spielberg for Best Director, Tony Kushner for Best Adapted Screenplay, John Williams for best Original Score and also for Cinematography, Costume Design, Film Editing,  Production Design and Sound Mixing.

First Quarter 2013 Financial Results to be discussed
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE: DIS) will discuss fiscal first quarter 2013 financial results via a live audio Webcast beginning at 5 p.m. on Feb. 5,

Disney becoming a soccer super power
With a rich assist from Florida taxpayers, Walt Disney World and local sports promoters are hoping to make Orlando a magnet for soccer fans this February, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Disney and the Central Florida Sports Commission have organized the region's first formal "Soccer Spring Training" program, which will feature six Major League Soccer teams holding preseason camps across Central Florida for 18 days in February. You can get the complete schedule here.  

GM going to Disney for help
To help connect better to its customers General Motors has quietly sent about 2,300 of its Chevrolet dealers and 600 of its Chevrolet division employees to three-day Disney Institute training sessions in Orlando, Fla., and Anaheim, Calif., over the past year, according to The Wall Street Journal.

I Do....Again on the Run
Nearly 10 years ago today, Wendie and Sean Cheyney said “I do” in the middle of the Walt Disney World Marathon at mile 10.5 – right in front of Cinderella Castle. This past weekend, they renewed their voes.
