After 2,619 performances, the musical will close at The New Amsterdam Theatre on March 3, according to a news release from the company.
The show has been seen by more people on Broadway in the last six years with the exception of "Wicked" and another Disney show - "The Lion King."
Here are some quick facts about the musical:
- When "Mary Poppins" opened in the West End in London children under three were not allowed to see the show. In fact, parents were warned that children under seven might find the show scary.
- "Mary Poppins" will rank as the 22nd longest-running show in Broadway history by the time its run is complete, ranking between "Hairspray" and "Avenue Q."
- Steffanie Leigh, who stars as Mary, has played the role on Broadway since October 2011, one of only four actresses during the entire Broadway run.
- Julie Andrews, the original Mary Poppins in the 1964 movie visited the Broadway production on March 17, 2005 and spoke on stage after the curtain call about making the film.
- By the time it closes, it will have grossed over $300 million; only four mega-hits in Broadway history "The Lion King"; "Mamma Mia!"; "Jersey Boys" and "Wicked") have grossed more by that point in their lives.
